The Club Fogolar Furlan was established in 1957 by a small group of migrants from the Friuli Region, located in the north east of Italy. The word “fogolar” means the hearth or fireplace, a symbol indicating fire and warmth which bring family members together. Membership is not exclusive, evident in the openness of its programs and activities which attract constant new ideas and participants.
The Club over 49 years has provided members and visitors with well appointed premises and sporting facilities. The club offers many facilities including two Function Rooms, Conference Room, Restaurant, Members Bar and Lounge Area. Administrative offices are staffed by friendly, efficient people who ensure the essential smooth functioning of all aspects of the Club. The Club’s vibrant spirit and progressiveness is its essence.
The Club boasts its own Choir and folk dance group. Members and friends come to play bocce, squash, soccer and cards. The Furlan Club also has its own golf group whereby many weekends are spent on the greens.
Our Cultural Group has presented a series of courses on history and traditions of Friuli and its relationship with Italy and Australia, utilising speakers from overseas and local historical experts. Our links with Italy are kept alive through our umbrella organisation ‘Ente Friuli nel Mondo’ (People from Friuli throughout the world). We are part of over 160 Fogolars (Hearths) worldwide.
The Fogolar has always been in the forefront of new and innovative programs within the Italian community. It has presented to members and associates not only entertainment but many informative days with special issues addressed and developed. The Club has a very active Committee with appropriate and select sub committees to develop and organise such programs.
